Monitoring Drives and Other Physical Devices

When the MegaRAID Storage Manager software is running, you can see the status of all drives and other physical devices in the left panel. If a drive is operating normally, the icon looks like this: . If a drive has failed, a small red circle appears next to the icon.

To display complete drive information, click a drive icon in the left panel and click the Properties tab in the right panel. The information on this tab is self-explanatory. No user-selectable properties are available for physical devices. Icons for other storage devices, such as CD-ROM drives and DAT drives, can also appear in the left panel.

The Power Status property shows On when a drive spins up and Powersave when a drive spins down. Note that SSD drives and other drives that never spin down still show On.

If drives are in a drive enclosure, you can identify which drive is represented by each drive LED on the enclosure. Perform these steps to locate the drive:

1.

Click the drive icon in the left panel.

2.

Click the Go To > Physical Drive > Start Locating Drive tab in the right panel.

The LED on the drive in the enclosure starts blinking to show its location.

NOTE  LEDs on drives that are global hot spares do not blink.

3.

To stop the drive light on the enclosure from blinking, select Go To > Physical Drive > Stop Locating Drive.

To display a graphical view of a drive, click a drive icon in the left panel of the MegaRAID Storage Manager main menu, and click the Graphical View tab. In the Graphical view, the drive’s storage capacity is color coded according to the legend shown on the window: configured space is blue, available space is white, and reserved space is red. When you select a virtual drive from the drop-down menu, the drive space used by that virtual drive is displayed in green.

NOTE  The Graphical view is available only for enclosures in the MegaRAID Storage Manager for Integrated RAID (IR).
